Tesco will award six grants per year in each of the 428 Tesco regions. In total the community grant scheme will support around 2,500 projects each year.
It will fund capital projects that provide community benefit and there is no charge to access.
The grants programme will be open to organisations such as: voluntary/community organisations, registered charities, health bodies, Parish/Town councils, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies, schools, hospices, community councils, local authorities and housing organisations.

Fourth Annual Report on the Armed Forces Covenant - Now Available

The Government today (10 December) publishes its fourth annual report on the Armed Forces Covenant, which ensures that past and present personnel and their families are treated fairly.

Service families move home more often than civilian families, on average every other year to locations across the UK and abroad. This can make accessing some national and local services and benefits that civilian families take for granted more challenging, including getting a mortgage, maintaining a place on NHS waiting lists, and getting a school place for their children.

Businesses, Local Authorities and charities have signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant, committing to delivering fair access to public and commercial services. In total, more than 750 businesses have made that promise. These promises are then implemented through a combination of new services, policy and projects, many of which are supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund.

Keeping families safe on social media

It's always a good idea to keep yourself safe on social media so here's some good help and advice to make sure your privacy settings are set correctly.

You can never be too careful:

Social networking sites are great for keeping in touch with family and friends, and letting the world know what you’re up to. The ‘Online engagement guidelines’ make it clear that we encourage the safe and responsible use of social networking sites.

This page contains guidance on how to stay safe and to think about what you post online. Remember, that there may be those who use such sites for unsavoury reasons.

Be extra careful if you have identified yourself as being a member of the military or an MOD civilian.

AFF - Army Basing Programme Survey

The 2015 moves as part of the Army Basing Programme are now complete.  The Army has now successfully relocated around 74% of its personnel from Germany since 2010, with over 5,000 Service personnel, plus their families, having relocated to the UK in 2015. 

Following the rebasing of personnel and their families, by the end of 2015 HQ BFG will have closed and handed back to the German authorities: 11 barracks with over 5,000 bed spaces, 6 SCE schools, 4 Medical Centres, and over 3,000 married quarters, ending the British military presence in Bergen-Hohne, Bad Fallingbostel, Herford , and Elmpt.

The Army Basing Programme Management Office has been working with colleagues in the Army Families Federation to produce a survey for families that have moved as part of Army Basing during 2015. The purpose of the survey is to assess the families’ experience of moving and how this can be improved upon for future moves.

Military Housing & Accommodation - Applications For SFA And Requests For SLA

JSP 464 requires that personnel apply for SFA as far in advance as possible once a notification of assignment (posting) has been received and such application should be made within 14 days of receipt of an assignment order.  With the Christmas break approaching, any personnel who require SFA in Jan or Feb 16 who have not submitted an application for SFA to date, are urged to submit an application without delay.  This is to allow the application to be processed and, where possible, make an allocation before Christmas.  In areas where there is a shortage of SFA it may be necessary for Substitute Service Families Accommodation (SSFA) to be sourced.  Early application will provide the best possible chance of suitable SSFA being sourced – where necessary - in Jan or Feb 16, a time when the historical supply of rental accommodation availability is lower.  Applications for SFA should be made using the online e1132 system where possible.

To mitigate the overall pressure, it is recommended that requests for SFA and SLA required for occupancy between 1 Dec 15 and 29 Feb 16 should be submitted by Service Personnel now.  Through timely application, in the event that SFA or SLA is not available, a Non-Availability Certificate (NAC) can be issued and a formal application for SSFA or SSSA made to the Substitute Accommodation Team (SAT) within DIO. 

For SSFA, the application is automatically made by the NHP Occupancy Services staff if no suitable SFA is available.  However, for SSSA, on receipt of a NAC from the relevant Mess or Accommodation Cell, an application must be made by the individual SP.  Accordingly, it is incumbent on Messes and Accommodation Cells to make an assessment of SLA availability for this period and issue NACs where necessary and without delay

Pets in your home

If you wish to keep a domestic pet in your Service Family Accommodation (SFA) you must seek permission. You can do this by using the e-1132 form when applying for your SFA. The team will need to approve applications for any further pets you bring into your home if already living in SFA. Once you have received approval to keep pets, please remember that this can be revoked by the MOD if the rules set out in JSP 464 Chapter 7 are not adhered to.

We want to know how things are going; questions will cover everything from education to spouse employment to finances. If you've come through rebasing, share your experience - especially how successful your arrival back in the UK was.
Armed with your feedback, the ABT can successfully plan future moves, including phase two of the rebasing programme, using best practice as well as considering lessons learned.

Public Health England has launched professional guidance aimed at health visitors and school nurses in identification and support for military children and young people.

The guidance offers clarity on the key public health issues and unique situations this group may be exposed to and how public health nurses can support as part of the universal offer.

Although aimed at health visitors and school nurses, the pathway will be of interest to others working with military families including early years, schools, primary and secondary care.

Cotswold Centre - Service Families Short Term Accommodation

The Services Cotswold Centre at Corsham provides a secure, affordable place to stay in temporary housing for Service families who may find themselves in short-term need of accommodation.

The secure 25 acre site has a community centre with internet connection, bar, games hall (with large screen TV), launderette and children's playground.

The 3 bedroom chalets and converted flatlets are all self catering. They are fully furnished and include colour TV with freesat, cooking utensils, fridge, freezer, cutlery, crockery, bedding and towels.

For those families who need to stay longer at the site, there is an excellent early years centre for children from 3-4 and the LocalAuthority Run Lypiatt Primary School for 5-11 year olds. Older children can attend Corsham Secondary School, which is nearby.
