The Soldiers’ Charity Photo Competition - Now On for 2016

The Soldiers' Charity photo competition is back! Click here to enter the competition to find the best photographs for our 2017 calendar!

We are delighted to announce that Staff Sergeant Ben Houston, Army Air Corps, is the winner of our 2016 Photo Competition. His winning image ‘Dawn Patrol’ (below) was taken when he was an instructor at the Army Training Regiment, Pirbright and shows some of his recruits in a wood, on exercise as part of their Phase One basic military training. The photo was taken on the spur of the moment on a very cold winter’s morning in November and Ben clearly has an aptitude for taking excellent shots!

His interest in photography has always played a part in his life: “During my basic training in ATR Bassingbourne, I took a photography course and enjoyed it so much that last year I enrolled on a course at my local college,” said Ben. “I am thrilled that I was voted Overall Winner by the judges!”

Now the 2016 calendar is in production, the search is on for the next set of pictures for the 2017 calendar. Anyone is invited to submit their entry, and may enter as many times as they like, as long as the subject of your photo has a link to the British Army.

There will be prizes for the Overall Winner (whose photo will also be on the front cover of the 2017 calendar), 2nd place and 3rd place. In total 12 images will be chosen by the judging panel to feature for each month of the year, and we are delighted to announce that Kate Adie and Michael Buerk will be our 2016 judges!
