Children's Education Advisory Service - Help With Moving Schools

Children’s Education Advisory Service (CEAS) is a tri-service organisation funded by the MOD. It was established to provide information and support to Service families and eligible MOD civilians on all aspects of the education of their children in the UK and overseas.
When children move frequently from one school to another or between different educational systems obtaining appropriate provision can be complex.

CEAS provides information and advice as well as supporting parents at meetings with schools, local authorities, at tribunal etc. No question is too small or too large for us to deal with. If we don’t know the answer ourselves we usually know someone who does. All of our staff have considerable experience of advising Service parents on a wide range of issues regarding Service children’s education.

Contact CEAS
The CEAS Helpline is manned from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. At other times, or when the helpline is busy, messages can be left on the answer machine or sent via email. Please ensure that your name, the name and date of birth of the child (if appropriate) and your contact details are left slowly and clearly.

HM Forces Railcard for Personnel and Spouses

The HM Forces Railcard costs £15 and it'll save you 1/3 on most rail fares throughout Great Britain for a whole year. That works out to under £2 a month for huge savings. You're eligible if you're a member of the Regular Forces or a spouse of a member, for more details see eligibility.

There are plenty of ways you can use your Railcard, for both long and short trips. Better still you can use it anytime on weekends, Public Holidays and during the week. The only restriction is that if you travel before 10am Monday to Friday (except during July and August) a minimum fare will apply. For more details see minimum fares.

Your HM Forces Railcard will save you 1/3 on many tickets. As with most things in life, there are some exceptions, so take a look at the ticket types you can and can't make savings on with your HM Forces Railcard.

Forces Help To Buy Scheme - Buying Your Own Property

The Forces Help To Buy Scheme (FHTB) was launched on 1 April 2014 as a three year pilot scheme. FHTB enables Service personnel to borrow up to half their annual salary (up to a maximum of £25,000) and is intended to assist towards the balance of the purchase price (taking into account, for example, deposit, legal, surveyors, land registration and estate agent fees) when buying a property for which a mortgage lender is willing to advance a mortgage.

Whilst this handout is intended to provide an overview of the FHTB scheme and application process, any personnel looking to utilise FHTB should familiarise themselves fully with JSP 464 Part 1 Chapter 12 where full details of the eligibility and qualifying criteria can be found.

Travelling to the USA this Summer-check your passport

Thousands of people with a valid British or Irish passport can still be refused entry to the US after a strict change in the country's entry requirements.
From April 1 all travellers to America must have a biometric, or e-passport, or they won't be allowed into the country.
Prior to this British passport holders did not need a visa to enter the US under the visa waiver scheme - but had to complete an ESTA form.
Irish passport holders who have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA), must also get a valid electronic passport.

All passports issued in the UK since October 2006 have been biometric, the home office confirmed.

Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FAMCAS) 2016

Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FAMCAS) 2016.

On 8 Feb 2016 Army Headquarters distributed the FAMCAS to 12,565 personnel Army-wide for completion by their spouses/civil partners. If, as a serving personnel, you have received a survey by post or by email, please ensure that it is passed to your spouse/civil partner soon as possible and encourage them to complete it. All responses will be treated in the strictest confidence, will not be seen by the Army and are subsequently destroyed by the contractor who gathers the information.

So far, 23% of invited spouses/civil partners have expressed their views about being part of an Army family. Thank you to those personnel who have passed on the survey and the spouses/civil partners who have completed FAMCAS.

However, more responses are required.  The evidence provided by this survey is made even more compelling if greater numbers reply.  This is an opportunity for spouses/civil partners to have their say.

The opinions of spouses/civil partners are highly valued and help to influence government policy and your terms and conditions of Service. The survey closes on 3 May 16.  Please send your responses in as soon as possible.
